Annual Heart Walk unites Greater Charlotte to create healthier businesses and healthier community

More than 6,000 community members will participate in the Greater Charlotte Heart Walk benefitting the American Heart Association on September 30 in Uptown Charlotte.

The American Heart Association believes healthy employees are the heart of a healthy business and a healthy workforce is engaged through connection, strengthened through health and well-being, empowered through community impact and inspired through purpose. The Heart Walk leverages purpose-driven activities, turnkey messaging and volunteerism to support workforce goals. Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death in Charlotte, and so many companies and their volunteers are working hand-in-hand with the American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all, to change that.

Dan Soto, chief compliance officer with Ally; and Brian Weisker, SVP and chief operations officer for Natural Gas Business Unit at Duke Energy, will serve as co-chairs for the 2023-2024 Heart Challenge, a community campaign focused on engaging local companies, corporations and their employees to join the fight against heart disease and stroke.

As campaign co-chairs of the Heart Challenge, Soto and Weisker lead a team of top-level executives to recruit companies and organizations to take part in purpose-driven Heart Challenge initiatives. Through these initiatives, the leadership team and supporting organizations will raise funds for the American Heart Association while leading action-oriented conversations about employee health, corporate engagement, community health and community transformation.

Local businesses and American Heart Association volunteers, as well as heart disease and stroke survivors and their families will participate. This year’s Greater Charlotte Heart Walk is sponsored by Live Fierce. Life is Why. sponsors, JELD-WEN, Nucor and Novant Health; Platform sponsor, Compass Group; and signature sponsors, Atrium Health, Piedmont Natural Gas and Crowder Constructors.

Heart disease and stroke are largely preventable and how you eat, move and manage stress impacts your well-being, physically and mentally. Heart Challenge provides resources, tools and activities to support both mental and physical well-being for employers and employees. By participating and donating to Greater Charlotte Heart Walk, participants are supporting the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association and safeguarding that fewer people die from stroke and heart disease.
