Huntington Bank hires Campbell as executive managing director for Carolinas

Former Truist banker Heath Campbell has been hired by Huntington National Bank to be executive managing director of the Carolinas.

“Our purpose at Huntington is to make people’s lives better, help businesses thrive, and strengthen the communities we serve,” said Campbell in a LinkedIn post on Saturday. “This people-first, client-centric strategy enables our [regional managers] to evolve from bankers to strategic advisors.”

Huntington said last month that it would place its newly formed fund finance team into an uptown Charlotte office building early next year. The Columbus, Ohio-based bank has more than 1,000 branches in 11 states, but none in the Carolinas.

Campbell was previously Truist North Carolina West Region president and the most senior ranking regional leader. He had been at Truist for slightly more than 20 years. He oversaw Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, Charlotte, Asheville and the N.C. foothills.

Campbell, 47, led a team consisting of banking, insurance and investments experts. He previously served in leadership roles for Truist across several markets, including Washington, D.C., Kentucky and Georgia.

Campbell has a bachelor’s degree from UNC Wilmington and an MBA from the University of Maryland. He had offices in Charlotte and Winston-Salem.

Huntington is the 26th-largest bank in the United States and has $187 billion in assets. Last month, it reported third quarter net income of $547 million, or 35 cents per share, a decrease of $47 million, or 4 cents, from the year-ago quarter.

It has been the nation’s largest originator, by volume, of Small Business Administration (SBA) 7(a) loans for the last six years.
