Why businesses are flocking to Ballantyne | A new hub for success

As the business landscape evolves, companies are increasingly choosing Ballantyne, a thriving submarket in South Charlotte, as their relocation destination. This area, known for its blend of modern amenities and strategic advantages, is attracting a diverse range of businesses. At the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance Investor Quarterly meeting this week, attendees got an up-close look at the transformation underway at Ballantyne’s newest destination: The Bowl, a dynamic retail, dining, and entertainment district nestled beside luxury apartments and desirable office space. A panel of business leaders offered their thoughts on why Ballantyne is becoming a preferred choice for companies looking to relocate.

Strategic vision and collective ambition

Once used as a family farmland and later a golf course, Ballantyne was one of the first master-plan communities in the area, started by Johnny Harris and Smoky Bissell. Now, Ballantyne is home to Fortune 500 companies, abundant green space, a variety of housing options, plentiful restaurants, and much more.

John Barton, president of Northwood Office, emphasized the success of Ballantyne’s business appeal stemmed from a “collective vision.” This vision involved engaging firms from around the globe to create a vibrant and collaborative business environment. With dynamic office trends across the city, Ballantyne has emerged as a strategic location that meets the evolving needs of modern businesses. Ballantyne has a unique ability to attract companies and people from across both Carolinas seeking the amenities and features of an urban area.

Charlotte’s allure | A data-driven choice

One of the newest companies in Ballantyne is Tential, a professional services and talent solutions firm. Tential is based in Maryland and has an office in Tampa, but recently expanded in Charlotte. Shane Ireland, CEO of Tential, talked about the importance of analytics in their decision-making process. For technology and professional services firms, Charlotte, and specifically Ballantyne, represents a “must-win market.” The area’s ability to draw from both Charlotte and South Carolina, combined with its urban amenities, makes it a prime location. Ireland appreciates Charlotte’s ambition and welcoming nature, which, combined with valuable support from the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, made Ballantyne stand out compared to other cities like Raleigh and Nashville.

A welcoming environment for talent

When global manufacturer Columbus McKinnon was looking to expand, company leaders already understood the value of the Charlotte Region. Kristy Moser, head of investor relations, communications, and treasurer at Columbus McKinnon, shared that their company, which specializes in materials handling solutions, needed an environment that could attract and accommodate a growing workforce. With Ballantyne already hosting a Columbus McKinnon presence, the decision to stay and expand in the area was straightforward. Moser points out that Ballantyne’s development—especially its accessibility, safety, and walkability— continues to play a crucial role in drawing talent from a broad range of locations, including international hires.

Accessibility and modern amenities

Alan Sauber, chief ethics and compliance officer at Premier, underscores the importance of accessibility and modern amenities in their decision to relocate to Ballantyne. Premier, a health care improvement company, values the safety and state-of-the-art facilities available in the area. As companies seek to optimize workspace and meet the demands of the workforce, Ballantyne’s easy access to major roads like I-485 and the promise of continued development make it a compelling choice. The area’s modern infrastructure and convenient parking further enhance its appeal.

Ballantyne’s growing appeal

Ballantyne’s success as a business relocation destination is driven by its strategic location, modern amenities, and the collaborative vision of its community. As more companies recognize the benefits of Ballantyne’s accessible, safe, and vibrant environment, it is poised to continue attracting businesses looking to thrive in a dynamic and supportive setting. Whether drawn by data, development, or a welcoming culture, businesses are finding Ballantyne to be an ideal place to grow and succeed.
