What’s new at Wells Fargo Championship

The 2024 Wells Fargo Championship is shaping up to be one of the biggest and best tournaments ever with a lot of new things happening at the Quail Hollow Club.

WBTV reports, from a fans standpoint, you will see a lot of new public venues on the 1st and 17th holes as well as near the practice greens near the clubhouse. These venues will be concession areas.

Gambling will become legal in the state of North Carolina on March 11th. Plenty of time before the start of the Wells Fargo Championship in May and ESPN BET will have a presence on the course near the 13th hole.

The video board near the Green Mile will be 70% larger.

When it comes to the play on the course, this is once again a signature event, but for the first time ever, there will be no cut. All 70 players in the field will play all 4 rounds.

And the golfers, they will get another new treat– 30 more yards on the 16th hole because so many of them were hitting their tee shots into the hospitality suites.

“I hit it over there a couple of times,” said defending champ Wyndham Clark.

“Last year, with a little bit of down wind and I’m taking it over that bunker, it is a little dangerous for the people right of that bunker and hospitality. And then I think it’s not how the hole was really meant to be played so now it’s bringing it back to where you have to go left of that bunker and you’re gonna have anywhere from an 8 to 5 iron into the green.

The added yardage is for safety, but Quail Hollow is going to make the winner of this tournament earn it. The Green Mile at Quail (holes 16-18) was the toughest stretch on the PGA Tour last season. Add 30 more yards on the first hole of the toughest stretch (16 is now a 536 yard par 4) and golfers beware.

“It’s just going to be really challenging and I think it is going to be a good change.”
