UNC Charlotte’s University Career Center celebrated a ribbon-cutting for the center’s new Career & Collaboration Hub last week.
Created together with Truist Financial Corporation, one of the largest financial institutions in the country, the hub is a place where success, engagement and purpose align to support UNC Charlotte students with resume development tools, interview preparation, sponsored career events and networking opportunities for employment or internships.
“Our commitment to lifelong learning and upskilling finds its physical manifestation here,” University Career Center Executive Director Patrick Madsen said. “This space will be a sanctuary for continuous growth, a place where knowledge flows freely and individuals embark on a journey of self-improvement and adaptability.”
“We are proud to partner with Truist, as they recognize the transformative power of a UNC Charlotte education,” Interim Provost Jennifer Troyer said. “Together, we are offering life-changing experiences for our students, helping foster a pipeline of globally competitive leaders that will enhance workforce development in our region, state and beyond.”
Charlotte alumnus Daniel Martinez ’21, a portfolio analyst with Truist, introduced Heath Campbell, president of the Greater Charlotte, Metrolina Region at Truist, as the afternoon’s keynote speaker. Martinez also highlighted Truist’s purpose-driven culture and his own journey to this career from his time at UNC Charlotte
Campbell addressed an audience of students, faculty, Career Center staff, Truist executives and guests of the company’s very intentional and strategic decision to choose Charlotte as its headquarters, noting that many fellow Truist executives have UNC Charlotte degrees. “When you think of Charlotte, you think of UNC Charlotte and the caliber of students and scholars the University produces.”
As he described his company’s investment in the UNC Charlotte Career & Collaboration Hub, he spoke of the important distinction between compromise and collaboration. “Compromise gives everyone less of what they really want, while collaboration builds trust and creates solutions bigger than either side could develop on their own.”
The Career & Collaboration Hub is just one example of Truist’s commitment to UNC Charlotte. Truist is also providing scholarships, expanding educational access and fostering student leadership development across campus through their investment in the Truist Institute for Student Success.
