U.S. News ranks UNC Charlotte among top graduate schools in 2024 list

UNC Charlotte offers dozens of graduate programs considered among the best in the nation, according to the 2024 U.S. News Best Graduate Schools rankings, which were released Tuesday, April 9. 

The Charlotte MBA, offered through the Belk College of Business, earned its highest ranking since 2020, No. 45 among part-time Master of Business Administration programs, up two spots over last year’s ranking. The program ranks No. 1 among public universities in North Carolina.

The Gerald G. Fox Master of Public Administration Program ranks among the top 21% of ranked programs, second among public programs in the Carolinas, and No. 57 overall. The program, offered through the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences, also earned three top 25 specialty rankings: local government management, nonprofit management and public finance.  

In the College of Health and Human Services, social work (No. 67) increased five spots from the previous ranking. Other top 100 ranked CHHS programs are: certified registered nurse anesthetist (No. 51); public health (No. 68); and health care management (No. 41), which is republished from a previous ranking.

Graduate programs in the Cato College of Education rank No. 71 overall. 

The College of Computing and Informatics ranks among the top 100 best computer science schools (No. 96).

“It’s clear the word is getting out about the world-class teaching, mentoring and research opportunities available here at Charlotte,” Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber said. “It’s great to see our programs recognized among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.”

Including online programs that were released in February, Charlotte now has 19 U.S. News top 100 graduate school rankings. 

“Our success at UNC Charlotte is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our graduate faculty, staff and students,” Pinku Mukherjee, interim associate provost and dean of the Graduate School, said.

Since first launching graduate programs in 1969, UNC Charlotte has become a leading institution with over 6,300 students enrolled in more than 150 master’s and doctoral programs. 

Last fall, the University set several enrollment records for graduate students. The single semester graduate enrollment records show a rise in doctoral, continuing, master’s degree, international and distance education graduate students, with increases in new doctoral research students and continuing enrollment.

Designed for prospective students looking to further their education beyond college, the U.S. News Best Graduate Schools rankings evaluate programs in a variety of disciplines, including business, education, engineering, nursing, science and math. U.S. News also announced that rankings for Best Engineering Schools and Best Clinical Psychology Schools will be released at a later date. 

This is one of several national rankings that illustrate the University’s rise as an emerging top-tier research university. Last fall, UNC Charlotte achieved a coveted spot among the top 100 public universities in the country, according to U.S. News.
