Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) is pleased to announce that Daniel Young has joined the firm as director of economic development. In this role, he will leverage his many years of experience serving as executive director of the South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development (CCED) to help lead MVA’s nationally recognized economic development and incentives team.
“Daniel is a well-respected figure in economic development circles both regionally and nationally. He understands the micro and macro elements of a successful economic development project, and the ways in which it can enrich the surrounding communities,” Thomas L. Young has more than 30 years of senior experience in all aspects of economic development projects, including negotiating incentive packages, overseeing incentive administration, permitting, and workforce development. During his tenure as executive director of the CCED, which is chaired by the secretary of commerce and comprised of the heads of 11 South Carolina agencies and the chairs of the Senate Finance Committee and House Ways and Means Committee, he was responsible for negotiating the state’s discretionary incentive programs. He served in this role under three governors and four commerce secretaries. In his final 18 months with the CCED, Young helped the state close on projects worth $14 billion in new capital investment and 18,000 jobs.
Young has notable experience in the automotive industry specifically, having helped to secure projects in South Carolina with BMW, Volvo Car, Scout Motors, Continental Tire, Michelin, Bridgestone, AESC (EV) Energy Storage and Daimler Vans. He also has experience in research involving state industrial projects, rural development, and disaster recovery.
Young earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In recognition of his impact and service, he was honored with the South Carolina Economic Developers Association Distinguished Service Award. He also served for more than 20 years on the State Technical College Board of Directors.
