Janet LaBar named to Business North Carolina’s Power List 2022

Janet LaBar, president and CEO of the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance®, has been named to Business North Carolina’s Power List 2022.

LaBar was recognized among the top executives in economic development across the state.

“Demand for steady, competent leadership is unquestionable,” Business North Carolina Editor David Mildenberg said. “Just look at the war in Ukraine, inflation reaching 40-year highs, and negative effects lingering from a horrible pandemic. It’s a challenging time.”

Great leadership never goes out of style,” he continued. “The need for it has never been greater.”

Honorees were selected after the magazine sought nominations, spoke with dozens of sources, and undertook significant research. Business NC magazine has spent years covering North Carolina’s business community from its unique statewide perspective.

While unveiling the list, the magazine also celebrated the state’s economic development success. State and local officials charged with attracting and retaining businesses have a strong story to tell, editors wrote, based on the 174 corporate relocation and expansions, 24,000 pledged jobs and $10 billion in capital investment announced last year. The totals surpassed the previous two years. Site Selection magazine has ranked the state’s business climate as tops in the nation for the last two years.

Recipients of the award shared some of their thoughts on their keys to success, best advice, and proudest family accomplishments.

Here is how LaBar responded:

  • Pre-workday motivation: Coffee and being grounded in the work we do to make an impact for people across the Charlotte region.
  • Key to industry success: The quantity and variety of stakeholders involved in our work require the critical skill of listening.
  • Best advice: Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.
  • Proud family accomplishment: My husband, James, and I are both servant leaders, and our three kids are growing up with a healthy understanding of what we value: giving back to our community and taking care of others.

CLT Alliance Board Chair and EY Central Private Leader and Charlotte Managing Partner Malcomb Coley was also named to the list for his leadership in professional services.
