Global manufacturer to expand, add new jobs in Catawba County

Wanzl North America, a leading solution provider and global manufacturer of retail equipment, has announced a $15 million investment to expand its Catawba County facility over the next three years.

The company plans to introduce state-of-the-art production technologies to support the growing global market for retail solutions. The renovation will not only enhance the company’s manufacturing capabilities but also significantly upgrade the facility’s employee amenities, including a new, redesigned cafeteria and lounge.

“We are thrilled to continue our investment in Catawba County,” Ben Hinnen, CEO of Wanzl North America, said. “This expansion demonstrates our commitment to our employees, our belief in the region’s potential, and our continuous improvement mindset. The Newton facility has always been critical for our business, and we are excited for the next phase of growth.”

Wanzl has had a presence in Newton and Catawba County for nearly four decades. The German-owned company holds the market position of being the largest manufacturer of shopping carts in North America.

“This investment by Wanzl is a clear indication of the robust business environment and skilled workforce we have cultivated in Catawba County,” Frank Young, chair of the Catawba County EDC Board of Directors, said. “Their expansion will undoubtedly spur further economic growth and solidify our reputation as a hub for leading manufacturers.”

The investment will create a minimum of 10 new high-skill positions with an average salary of $52,172.
