Advocacy in Action: CLT Alliance leads trip to Columbia to meet with Gov. McMaster, lawmakers

The CLT Alliance Advocacy Committee held a special meeting in Columbia, South Carolina, this week, convening to hear a legislative update from House Majority Leader Gary Simrill.

The group, which included legislators, business leaders, and regional partners, then headed to the Governor’s Mansion for a reception.

Simrill, who represents part of York County in the South Carolina House gave an update on priority legislation, including tax reform, infrastructure funding, and broadband. As Simrill will be retiring after this session, he also discussed how the legislature has changed during his time there, and how he is looking forward to seeing and supporting new leaders guiding the House.

Gov. Henry McMaster hosted a reception for the CLT Alliance Advocacy Committee and investors at the Governor’s Mansion. Investors enjoyed opportunities to network with colleagues and elected officials in Columbia.

“We are very grateful to Governor McMaster for hosting CLT Alliance business leaders, regional partners and legislators at the Governor’s mansion in Columbia this week,” Chief Advocacy and Strategy Officer Kelly O’Brien said. “Collectively, the Charlotte Region’s South Carolina counties contribute approximately $20 billion to the region’s Gross Domestic Product. It was clear from this visit that there is excitement to build closer working partnerships and greater awareness in the state capital of our important metro.”
