Moving to a brand new city can feel like a daunting journey—but it can also be one of the most rewarding. When I relocated to Charlotte just over four years ago, I had no idea how quickly this place would come to feel like home. What started as a leap into the unknown soon became an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally, thanks in large part to the incredible sense of community I’ve found here.
Giving back has always been an important part of who I am. Growing up in a small town in Illinois, I watched my parents actively support local causes and organizations—not because they had to, but because they believed in the value of community. They modeled what it meant to be civically engaged and compassionate citizens, often outside of their professional roles. That example stuck with me.
When I moved to a larger city like Charlotte, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to find the same kind of close-knit connection or chances to contribute in meaningful ways—especially while adjusting to full-time work in a new environment. But joining Novant Health in 2021 changed everything. I was fortunate to become part of a culture where service, leadership, and community engagement are deeply valued. The support and encouragement I received from leaders and colleagues helped me find pathways to get involved, give back, and feel truly rooted in the city.
One of the most recent and impactful opportunities has been joining the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance Young Professionals Board. This experience has opened my eyes to the breadth of industries and talent in the city, while also allowing me to build a strong, supportive professional network. Being part of this board has introduced me to other motivated young professionals who are not only career-driven, but also deeply committed to making a difference in the community we share.
Each board meeting, event, or initiative has given me the chance to learn, connect, and contribute. Sometimes it’s light-hearted—like trading restaurant recommendations—but often it’s much deeper. We’ve worked together to raise awareness about social issues, support local businesses, and collaborate on initiatives that aim to drive positive change across Charlotte. It’s in these moments that I truly feel the impact we’re making—not just as individuals, but as a collective.
Charlotte has given me so much more than a new job and address—it’s given me a community. A place where I can grow, give back, and be part of something larger than myself. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to contribute and for the people who continue to inspire me to stay engaged, stay curious, and stay connected.
