BMW, Volkswagen supplier to build new manufacturing facility in Gaston County

Automotive industry supplier HEYCO-Werk USA Inc. announced plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Gaston County. The company is expected to create 34 new jobs and invest more than $12.75 million in the Apple Creek Corporate Center. The new site will also include a 60,000-square-foot production facility for high-end injection molding and showroom.

A subsidiary of German-based automotive parts manufacturer, HEYCO Group, HEYCO-Werk USA Inc. manufactures plastic molding and windshield trimming for the automotive industry, including BMW and Volkswagen, and other industrial applications. This expansion to a second location in North Carolina will help meet the growing needs of BMW and other European car manufacturers in North America.

“HEYCO is another great addition to our growing auto manufacturing supply chain that will attract even more companies and jobs,” Gov. Roy Cooper said. “This project in Gaston County and others like it across our state confirm North Carolina’s dedication to a world class workforce, innovation, and access to global markets.”

Company leaders touted the site’s space for expansion, central location that provides access to major hubs for specialized supply chains, and strong customer base.

“We are thrilled to expand our manufacturing footprint to the greater Charlotte area and join the close network of German based manufactures in the region,” Daniel Dittmar, chief executive officer of HEYO-WORK USA, said. “The new plant will play an important strategic role within the HEYCO Group and to our customers. With this latest investment we set an important milestone for the future of HEYCO-Werk USA, ensuring both strategic growth as a Tier 1 automotive supplier, and the long-term success of our company and our employees.”

Salaries will vary by position with an average annual wage of $63,382, which exceeds the Gaston County average of $46,351. These new jobs could potentially create an annual payroll impact of more than $2.1 million for the region.

“Everything about this investment speaks volumes to the success story that is Gaston County,” Gaston County Board of Commissioners Chairman Chad Brown said. “This project will bring good paying jobs and a multi-million dollar investment in our county as we continue to make Gaston County the premier place to work, play and stay. The vision of our board to purchase land and build the Apple Creek Corporate Center is again paying significant dividends for our residents.”
