New report addresses racial equity in the Charlotte Region

A new report from the researchers at the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance lays bare the prevalence of racial wealth disparities in two key industries in the Charlotte Region: health care and manufacturing. The CLT Alliance Racial Equity Report not only outlines some of the disparities, but also offers some valuable solutions.

Here are a few of the key findings:

  • Minorities are overrepresented in underpaying jobs in health care and manufacturing; Minorities are underrepresented in higher paying jobs in those industries.
  • Blacks & Hispanics/Latinos average less in annual wages than their Asian & white counterparts.
  • Home health aides are the lowest salaried ($19,000) in the industry. 46% of aides are Black.
  • Minorities comprise 66% of employees in low-wage manufacturing jobs.

Many of these disparities apply to other industries as well. The CLT Alliance Racial Equity Report explores the issues and trends around wealth inequities, the contributing factors, and what industry leaders can do within and beyond their businesses. The report also highlights some of the region’s best efforts that can serve as examples on how to strategically address racial equity.
