Apprenticeship partnership providing tuition-free IT training

In partnership with Central Piedmont Community College, Cognizant Technology Solutions U.S. Corporation is expanding its talent outreach by building an apprenticeship training model designed to bridge the gaps and prepare early to mid-career professionals. The training model will combine paid on-the-job learning with unpaid online instruction to help candidates master the knowledge, skills and competencies needed for a full-stack developer career.

Candidates participate in a tuition-free, unpaid pre-apprenticeship Java training program provided by Central Piedmont Community College. The 12-week program consists of self-directed online learning plus instructor-led live online coaching. After completing the pre-apprenticeship, qualified candidates participate in a paid, one year apprenticeship as a full-stack developer with Cognizant, which currently employs more than 1,000 workers in Mecklenburg County.

The no-cost training java pre-apprenticeship is being delivered as part of the North Carolina Community College System’s Customized Training Program, which provides education, training, and support services for new, expanding, and existing eligible businesses and industries throughout the state.

The initial 12 week pilot program will be open to up to 25 participants. The classroom curriculum and unpaid “pre-apprenticeship” aspect of the program will teach JAVA Programming as a foundation skill. Interested individuals can sign-up for the program here.
