Charlotte Regional Business Alliance President & CEO Janet LaBar and Vice President of Government Affairs Matt Panik recently toured the state-of-the-art Atrium Health Levine Cancer Proton & Advanced Radiation Center.
The center opened earlier this year, offering cutting-edge radiation therapies. Gamma Knife radiosurgery is available to patients now, with proton beam therapy anticipated to be available later this year. Both therapies can be used to treat an array of conditions, offering patients choices for treatment.
Proton beam therapy is a highly advanced treatment that is not widely available. Atrium Health will be one of just 44 cancer centers in the country to offer the treatment, and the only program between Washington, D.C. and Atlanta.
Patients from around the country and the world will seek care in Charlotte. Atrium Health will work with patients and community stakeholders to coordinate travel, lodging, and other logistics to make the provision of care as seamless as possible. The CLT Alliance will promote this new health care resource and support Atrium Health in making community connections for patients.
Atrium Health’s new facility will be an attractive community asset as the region competes for talent and business. Local residents will benefit from having cutting-edge care readily available to them close to home. Businesses will see value in key health care investments being made to support their talent base. Atrium Health will continue to cultivate its own talented workforce with this new center.
This investment by Atrium Health expands access to health care for local and global patients and improves the overall quality of life in the region. The Charlotte Region’s economic competitiveness increases with this investment and the region is elevated as an innovative health care hub with the addition of this center. These therapies represent a key offering for the patients in Charlotte and beyond, and the CLT Alliance will champion Atrium Health in delivering world-class care right here in Charlotte.
