As the business community continues to support those impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, Charlotte business leaders came together on Tuesday to organize a donation and volunteer event named “Carolina Cares” at Bank of America Stadium.

Along with their own donations, corporate partners provided employee volunteers to help organize, coordinate, sort and deliver donations associated with the event. The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte will receive the donations and coordinate final delivery.

“With what our neighbors in Western North Carolina have experienced in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, it takes all of us working together to bring hope and resources during this challenging time,” said Major Jason Burns, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte. “We are deeply grateful for the compassion and generosity of our Charlotte corporate partners, who make a difference in the community every single day.”

Items accepted at the Carolina Cares event included:

  • New winter coats, jackets (men, women, and children in all sizes) and cold weather accessories (hats, gloves, socks, boots, scarves in all sizes)
  • New undergarments (men, women, and children in all sizes)
  • Unopened baby items (clothes, diapers, formula, blankets, baby toiletries, bottles, baby wash, lotion) and basic toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, condition, razors, deodorant, hairbrush, combs, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, tissue, face wipes, lip balm)

“Bank of America is proud to join forces with our partners to ensure the Carolina Cares volunteer event delivers the essential resources the Western Carolina community needs right now,” said Kieth Cockrell, President of Bank of America Charlotte. “Thank you to Tepper Sports & Entertainment for providing the venue as well as our corporate partners for their commitment. The ability to harness our collective time, resources and passion towards a shared purpose is a testament to the strength of the relationships we covet and the city we cherish. Together, we are making a difference.”

Corporate partners for the donation event included Advocate Health, Ally, Avid Exchange, Bank of America, Barings, Brighthouse Financial, Coca-Cola Consolidated, Duke Energy, Hornets Sports & Entertainment, Honeywell, Lending Tree, Laura Little Theatricals, Nucor Corporation, Piedmont Natural Gas, Tepper Sports and Entertainment, Trane, True Homes, Utsey Architect PLLC and Wells Fargo. Nonprofit partners for the event include the Belk Foundation, Novant Health and The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte.

Update from the CLT Alliance

The business community stepped up to help Western North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. To date, the Charlotte Region’s business community fund administered by Foundation For The Carolinas has raised more than $1.4 million. Funds continue to be distributed directly to organizations with boots on the ground in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina.

Truist recently announced a 3-year, $725 million commitment to support and sustain hurricane recovery and resiliency. Resources will be focused on critical areas of need: Small business assistance, housing, and infrastructure.

You can still financially support those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Make a donation online or via these other options.
