These are the ‘Best Places to Live’ in the Charlotte Region

A lakeside community with stellar schools and quintessential quality-of-life attributes has not only reaffirmed its status as the premier place to reside in South Carolina, but has also distinguished itself as the best place to live in the Charlotte Region.

Tega Cay, nestled in the scenic Lake Wylie area 17 miles southwest of Uptown Charlotte, topped the “2024 Best Places to Live” rankings recently released by Niche.com. The York County city received an overall score of “A+,” earning high marks in nearly all evaluated categories including its superior public schools, safety, and family-friendly atmosphere. Commute times were the lowest scored area.

Davidson and Dilworth came in second and third place respectively in the Charlotte Region.

On the South Carolina rankings, Fort Mill closely trailed Tega Cay, securing the second spot within the state. Fort Mill boasted high grades for educational excellence and suitability for families. The town received slight deductions in commute and crime and safety ratings.

In North Carolina, Niche.com gave the top spot to Cary, a fast-growing suburb of Raleigh. Two places in the Charlotte Region landed in the top five: Davidson at No. 4, and Dilworth at No. 5.

Niche.com’s methodology for these rankings is thorough, incorporating data from federal and local government sources alongside its own proprietary data and community feedback. The rankings assess a wide array of livability factors, such as local school quality, crime rates, housing trends, cost of living, employment figures, and access to amenities, providing a comprehensive view of what it’s like to live in each area.

Celebrating its 10th year, the Niche.com Best Places rankings serve as an authoritative annual guide, relying heavily on data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Released on March 22, the rankings encompass a variety of categories, including cities, towns, suburbs, and neighborhoods, making it an indispensable resource for individuals and families seeking the best places to live, work, and thrive.
