Morcon Tissue expands again in Chester County

The leading employer in Great Falls, SC, announced plans to invest $2.4 million in its existing facility and convert 15 positions to higher paying roles.

Morcon Tissue plans to add new machines and automation equipment, as well as upskill existing jobs within the plant. The plan calls for replacing 15 jobs with higher paying craftsman and operator positions, creating advancement opportunities for current workers.

“Morcon is proud to continue to invest in the growth of our business within Chester County,” Chris Raccuia, vice president of operation of Morcon Tissue, said. “Our company has tripled in revenue over the last seven years. We will continue to streamline our operation, develop our people, and solidify the long-term viability of Morcon.”

“It is great that Morcon Tissue is adding new positions with higher skill levels and wages. This will create opportunities for promotions from within for existing workers,” Robert Long, director of Chester County Economic Development, said. “Companies need to invest in themselves to remain competitive.”

Morcon Tissue opened the tissue conversion plant in Great Falls, SC in 2002. Today, they are the Town of Great Falls’ largest employer with 90 existing employees. Morcon Tissue produces napkins, towels, tissue, and dispensers for their own product lines, as well as private label brands.

“It is always gratifying when existing companies invest in Chester County,” Wylie Frederick, interim supervisor of Chester County, said. “We were delighted to support this expansion in the Great Falls community.”

This is the second investment in a year for the company. In 2021, Morcon Tissue invested more than $700,000. Historically, their products were primarily marketed towards commercial and retail applications. In the wake of the pandemic, Morcon has continued to diversify the customer base by offering new products geared towards consumers.

Morcon Tissue has been a part of the Great Falls community since 2002,” Joshua Brantley, mayor of Great Falls, said.  “Over the years, they have expanded several times; more than doubling the footprint of their plant.  Their continued commitment to Great Falls is truly gratifying.  Thank you Morcon for your confidence in Great Falls!
