Manufacturer Komar Industries to add 160 jobs with new York County operation

A baler and compactor maker is establishing its first South Carolina operation in York County.

Komar Industries is moving its subsidiary, Bace, LLC, from Charlotte. Komar is making a $11.5 million investment in the move, keeping Bace in the region and creating 160 new jobs, the company said in a news release Wednesday.

Komar designs and manufactures balers, stationary compactors, and self-contained compactors.

“Komar Industries is pleased to expand our manufacturing network of factories with our first operation within South Carolina,” CEO Mark Koenig said in a statement. “We look forward to becoming an integral part of the York community and an employer of choice in the area.”

Company leaders plan to overhaul a building at 200 Ratchford Road in York. The location is expected to be operational by July.

The new operation will expand Komar’s manufacturing capabilities in waste and recycling compactor technology.

“We proudly welcome Komar Industries to South Carolina,” South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said in a statement. “As a leading global manufacturer, Komar’s relocation to our state is proof that companies are taking notice of our unmatched workforce. The 160 new jobs brought to York County will strengthen the region and add to the legacy that defines our manufacturing industry.”

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project. The council also awarded a $150,000 Set-Aside grant to York County to help with the cost of the building improvements.
