German electronics manufacturer relocates US headquarters to Lancaster County

Captron, a German electronics manufacturer, has relocated its U.S. headquarters, sales, and service operations to Lancaster County.

Captron is a world market leader for innovative sensor technology. The company manufactures high-quality sensors that support food and beverage, pharma, building engineering, automotive manufacturing, traffic and transportation, aviation, robotics, and logistics.

The company recently relocated its sales and service operations from White Plains, New York, to a site in Fort Mill, with the potential to expand into production in the next few years.

“Selecting the Charlotte Region was a strategic decision, based on the favorable advantages of operating costs, infrastructure and talent found here,” Sean Walters, Captron North America general manager said.

Captron leaders reached out to the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance last spring when they first began their relocation search. The CLT Alliance Select CLT Team supported the relocation, providing labor data, assisting in property search, and connecting the company leaders to resources in the Charlotte Region.

“Select CLT is thrilled to have supported Captron as it evaluated the Charlotte Region for relocating their operations,” Gretchen Carson, CLT director of business recruitment, said. “Attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) projects brings diversity to the regional economy. Companies like Captron who establish operations here, often grow to contribute a significant amount of jobs and capital investment in our region.”

Foreign Direct Investment is a crucial component of the Charlotte Region’s economy. The region is home to more than 1,000 international businesses, representing more than 40 countries. Germany leads FDI in the region. The area was home to 215 German companies as of 2020.
