Sports wagering advances in NC House; CLT Alliance supports progress

The Charlotte Regional Business Alliance® announced support Wednesday for the sports wagering policy advancing through the North Carolina House of Representatives.

The North Carolina House passed sports wagering legislation sponsored by Rep. Jason Saine, along with several co-sponsors. The legislation now heads to the North Carolina Senate for consideration.

The CLT Alliance works to foster a top tier business climate in the Carolinas, which includes maintaining a high quality of life for residents. Sports wagering will enhance the attractiveness of the Charlotte Region from an economic development and tourism perspective, helping to grow the local economy.

States across the country are allowing sports wagering and realizing the economic benefits. Two Southeastern states, Virginia and Tennessee, have seen tens of millions in tax revenue since enacting policies to allow sports wagering.

As with competition for economic development projects and jobs, North Carolina will continue to compete with Virginia, Tennessee, and other states on quality of life opportunities like sports wagering.

The CLT Alliance will continue to support this policy as it is considered by the Senate.
