Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority announces new CEO

The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority (CRVA) is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, Steve Bagwell. This pivotal decision comes after an extensive selection process by the CRVA Board of Directors, chaired by CRVA Board Chair Vinay Patel, and included members of the Board’s Executive Committee as well as advisory representatives from the City of Charlotte, Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, Mecklenburg County, and the Charlotte Sports Foundation.

Steve Bagwell, in his 28th year with the CRVA, is currently serving as the vice president of venues. In his current role, he oversees the management of the Charlotte Convention Center, Bojangles Coliseum, and Ovens Auditorium as well as back-of-house support services at the Spectrum Center and the NASCAR Hall of Fame. A graduate of Clemson University and a CPA, Bagwell has held crucial roles in operations, technology, and finance within the organization.

“The CRVA’s commitment to maximizing the region’s economic potential through visitor spending, creating jobs, and opportunities for the community remains unwavering,” Patel said. “We are confident in Steve Bagwell’s ability to lead the CRVA into its next chapter, leveraging his extensive experience and dedication to the organization.”

Outgoing CEO Tom Murray, who retires in November, commented on the appointment, saying, “I am filled with immense excitement and gratitude as I look to pass the torch. It has been an honor to lead such a dedicated team, and I am confident in our organization’s bright future. I wholeheartedly believe that the commitment and passion of our team will continue to propel CRVA to new heights under Steve’s leadership.”
