‘A winning 2023’ | How sports are helping Charlotte Region score talent, business

The Charlotte Region has become an attractive location for both businesses and individuals alike for a variety of reasons. Quality of life has become routinely cited as a key factor for those who have ultimately decided on relocating. One key factor the Charlotte Region has in terms of quality of life is its thriving sports scene. From minor league baseball and hockey to professional football, soccer, and basketball, the region offers something for nearly any type of fan. Not only do sports provide entertainment for the region, but they also offer real economic outcomes. For instance, in 2021 it is estimated that college sports generated nearly $95 million in the region. Additionally, the Wells Fargo Championship brings in another estimated $77 million to the Charlotte Region annually.

A Winning 2023

2023 has already proved to be another highlight for Charlotte Region sports. Highlights from around the region include:

Regional Advantage

The Charlotte Region is also home to a unique advantage for fans when compared with other peer cities. The professional sports teams sit within a mile radius of a walkable downtown. Many cities around the country feature stadiums and arenas spread further apart through their regions. For example, Tampa Bay has its hockey team located in the heart of their downtown area, while its baseball and football teams sit several miles away.  Fans, however, in the Charlotte Region don’t have to travel far to see their teams.
