Ceramics tech company announces new investment in Mooresville facility

NGK CERAMICS USA, INC. (NGK) announced plans to expand their operation in Mooresville, investing $9.4 million in machinery and new equipment.

The proposed investment would be the company’s 17th expansion at their Mooresville manufacturing facility. This investment would automate two of the company’s six extrusion finishing areas and five of the nine inspection lines. NGK expects the automation will improve the company’s productivity while freeing up several key existing personnel members to be deployed at other areas within the company.

NGK CERAMICS USA, INC. is a subsidiary of NGK INSULATORS LTD., one of the world’s leading ceramic technology companies with its headquarters in Japan. The company has been in the Town of Mooresville for over 30 years, commencing operations in the fall of 1988. As one of the largest employers in Iredell County, NGK has two locations in Mooresville.

The company manufactures ceramic honeycombs called “HONEYCERAM®” used for automotive and truck catalytic converters for the global automotive industry. The HONEYCERAM® gets its name from the array of parallel channels that create the look of a honeycomb.

Iredell County Economic Development Corporation worked with the company to secure economic development grants from both the Town of Mooresville and Iredell County.
