Charlotte Region companies finish well in Fortune’s ‘Most Admired Companies’

The Charlotte Region did well on Fortune magazine’s annual list of “The World’s Most Admired Companies,” with eight of its 13 largest companies making the grade.

The magazine named 333 companies from across the globe to the list this year. The Charlotte Business Journal curated a catalog of companies from our region. Three Charlotte companies ranked first in their individual industries. They were Bank of America Corp., named the most admired megabank, Lowe’s Cos. Inc., the top specialty retailer, and Nucor Corp., as a metals manufacturer.

Honeywell International Inc. ranked second among electronics companies, Truist Financial Corp. came in fourth among super-regional banks, Coca-Cola Consolidated was fifth among beverage companies, and Duke Energy Corp. ranked eighth among electric and gas utilities.

Trane Technologies plc also made the list, ranking second in the industrial machinery category. Trane Technologies is based in Ireland, but its corporate management works out of its U.S. headquarters in Davidson.

Only two North Carolina companies outside of Charlotte made this year’s list. They are Durham’s IQVIA Holdings, ranking first among companies in health care: pharmacy and other services, and Burlington’s Laboratory Corp. of America, which finished fourth in that same category.

BofA and Lowe’s finished highest among all North Carolina companies in the rankings. Charlotte’s big bank came in 39th overall in Fortune’s ranking, and Lowe’s came in 44th. Only the top 50 companies are ranked by place; the remainder are listed alphabetically.
