Anchored by Concord, the western part of Cabarrus County is home to a large racing complex, including Charlotte Motor Speedway, which hosts three annual NASCAR Cup Series events. Several major racing teams--Hendrick Motorsports, Roush Fenway Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing, and Stewart-Haas Racing, among others--call Cabarrus County home, part of the motorsports industry that accounts for nearly $6 billion in annual revenue.

Wind-simulated testing facilities by Windshear are recent cutting-edge additions to the motorsports-technology development in the county. Plastics manufacturing, wholesale trade groceries, and telecommunications and broadcasting equipment manufacturing are thriving industries in the county, which is rounded out by Harrisburg, Kannapolis, Midland, and Mt. Pleasant.

Cabarrus County’s population has grown by 18% since 2010. The county consists of three of the fastest growing municipalities in the Charlotte Region: Concord, Kannapolis and Harrisburg. To make room for this growth, the City of Kannapolis, City of Concord, and Town of Mount Pleasant are in the process of revitalizing their downtown districts to make room for new business opportunities, housing, parking, and dining.
