CLT Alliance supports advancement of sports wagering legislation

The Charlotte Regional Business Alliance® supports the sports wagering legislation which advanced through the North Carolina House this week and now heads to Gov. Roy Cooper’s desk.

As the voice of business for the Charlotte Region, the CLT Alliance has included sports wagering in its legislative agenda this year.

Maintaining a high quality of life in the Charlotte Region is a key component of economic development and tourism for the CLT Alliance. Ensuring that residents have access to desirable cultural amenities like sports wagering helps to keep the Charlotte Region competitive for job creators and job seekers.

States across the country are allowing sports wagering and realizing the economic benefits. Two Southeastern states, Virginia and Tennessee, have seen tens of millions in tax revenue since enacting policies to allow sports wagering.

As with competition for economic development projects and jobs, North Carolina will continue to compete with Virginia, Tennessee, and other states on quality of life opportunities like sports wagering.

Rep. Jason Saine is the sponsor of the legislation, along with several co-sponsors. If the bill passes and becomes law, it would take effect within the next year.
