What better way to sell the Charlotte Region than meet face to face with national media? During a recent two-day promotional tour in New York City, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles and City Manager Marcus Jones spoke with reporters, editors and anchors with NPR, NBC Digital, The Wall Street Journal, TechCrunch, Digital Trends, Bloomberg Print and Radio, as well as appeared live from the New York Stock Exchange floor on Cheddar TV.
The trip was planned as part of a collaborative yearlong national public relations campaign sponsored by the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, Charlotte Center City Partners and the Alliance. The three organizations are working with international economic development marketing agency Development Counsellors International (DCI) to raise awareness about all that the area has to offer. Theme lines for the public relations effort include fintech, talent attraction, real estate, transit, sustainability, energy, startups, entrepreneurs, foreign direct investment, advanced manufacturing, diversity and the 2020 RNC.
During the March 19-21 tour, Mayor Lyles and Manager Jones discussed everything from CLT250 to fintech, advance manufacturing, financial services, transportation infrastructure, innovation in mobility and planning, the 2020 RNC and what sets the Charlotte Region apart from other parts of the country when businesses are considering relocating. In addition to pitching stories to national media, the campaign has also implemented a digital advocates program that regularly shares social media posts about the region.
