Charlotte, N.C. – Empowered Benefits, created in 2000 and acquired by Aflac in 2015, is expanding their newly renovated high-tech Charlotte offices at 525 N. Tryon Street from 14,000 to 30,500 square feet investing $3 million into the office space and adding 30 new jobs before the end of the year.

The company has revolutionized consumer-driven healthcare and HRA platforms, simplifying an overly complex process in the benefits industry. Empowered has added approximately 65 jobs over the last two years. Chief Financial Officer Fred Crawford and Aflac Corporate Ventures President Nadeem Khan led a ribbon cutting celebration at the newly renovated offices this morning.

“For more than 60 years, Aflac has been in the business of helping people when they need us most, and we have accomplished that through hard work, innovation and technology,” Crawford said. “We believe in simplifying people’s lives, and that sentiment is what we want to demonstrate whenever someone walks through these doors. We want them to be Empowered to help find solutions for our customers.”

Earlier this year, Aflac announced Aflac Corporate Ventures, a $100 million Venture Capital Fund headquartered in Charlotte which is a core part of Empowered’s growth strategy. The fund is pursuing investment opportunities with early-stage companies whose mission is relevant to Aflac's core business and designed to help the company enhance its strategic and innovative focus.

“Empowered and Aflac’s commitment to growth in Charlotte is significant in that it not only further enhances our strength within the health care sector but also offers tremendous opportunities to assist like-minded entrepreneurial businesses,” added Bob Morgan, Charlotte Chamber CEO and president.
