I am thrilled to be the newest addition to the CLT Alliance, serving as the manager of investor relations and business development. My role will focus on corporate engagement, investor relationships, and revenue strategy.
For executives, it’s extremely important to have access to information, advocates, and a network of other executives in the Charlotte Region. That’s largely what the CLT Alliance provides when our business partners invest in our mission. This translates into work that is transformative for Charlotte and the surrounding counties. When it comes full circle, we’re building a healthy and vibrant community capable of putting income back into the region.
I recently came from the medical device sales space, working out of Duke University for Globus Medical where I made an impact through partnering with leading neurosurgeons by providing them solutions to treat patients and improve their quality of life. I was a key player on a small team of surgical device reps in Raleigh-Durham, growing the territory from $1.6M to $5.9M within one year. Although no longer in the operating room, I expect that I will continue to be able to impact lives through this opportunity, by helping companies in the region grow, and amplifying a voice that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.
I am currently involved with the Junior Chamber but look forward to increasing my exposure to Charlotte Young Professionals, commercial real estate groups, development firms focused on building up underserved communities, and of course, health care organizations. I’ve always been a servant leader, focused and community driven—this is yet another opportunity for me to plug further into community and drive impact.
I called Charlotte home for the first time seven years ago. I graduated from Presbyterian College in South Carolina and relocated here from Greenville, less than two hours down I-85. This city and the people here have had an invaluable impact on my personal and professional development. Fun fact: my undergrad degree is in biology. In college, I placed out of all general ed’s, went straight into my major, and never really stepped foot in our business department. It was after I graduated that I began working in a bank and my curiosity began churn seeing the different gears of the organization operate. I enrolled in a program at Cornell to sharpen my business/financial acumen and I’ve continued to leverage that for continued growth and success, also relying a great bit on my personality and keenness for people to build strong relationships.
When I am not enjoying time with friends or family in a private setting, I’m probably with them elsewhere being a patron to the many restaurants in our region. I love to go all out in the kitchen, cooking for entertainment; also arcade bars, live music, and staying active. I balance all of the above to keep me mentally and physically healthy. I am the youngest of four siblings, with eight nieces and nephews. And I am proud to say I am 100% the “cool uncle.”
Jamel would love to connect with you. Here’s how to find him on LinkedIn.
